Friday - RMS & peak

Friday Night (saturday Morning) 3am

RMS & Peak
MS (Martyn Harler) has been playing on the breaks scene since 2005 at various festivals and clubs nights around the country. Being a child of the seventies, Mart grew up on Jean Michel Jarre and got into Dance Music from an early age, and came from a Drum & Bass background, where he had DJ’d in the mid to late nineties.

In early 2008 Martyn met Adam Goodlet, a talented psy producer (re:creation) and they quickly realized that although their styles were different, there was certain chemistry when behind the decks together.

Together they formed as 'RMS & peak' and set about fusing their styles and found a combination which complimented each other in the studio; What was born was a concophany of chunky breakbeats, acidic twisted elements and dark psychedelic undertones. After a number of successful gigs, 'RMS & Peak' had established themselves as a credible breakbeat act.

RMS & Peak have played in clubs all over the country, at major UK festivals including Waveform and Antiworld - and their club nights continue to grow in popularity across the South Coast.

The boys have a number of tunes which are to be released 2009 including a collaboration with model101 with a Far Too Loud remix on the flip.

2009 is certainly a year to watch out for RMS & Peak!!

FRIDAY - SaVannaH

SaVannaH
Friday Night (Saturday Morning) - 4am

SaVannaH aka Sarah Hey is a tearout breaks dj from Salisbury. She has fast built a reputation within the scene for her skills on the decks and no holds barred bassline sets. Early rock and drum n bass influences have shaped her individual sound and the passion felt for every tune she plays is plain to see - she certainly knows how to rock a party!! She has appeared alongside some of the biggest names in breaks including The Autobots, The Breakfastaz, Ctrl Z, Screwface, Backdraft, Ed209 and Baobinga to name a few. She is now a resident at F(r)action in Southampton alongside The RMS, h0ffman & m0del 101 and Buba King.As well as regularly working in the studio alongside dj h0ffman, she has been collaborating with The RMS on new material-forthcoming on Unstable Label. She has the potential to be one of breaks' big names.

FRIDAY NIGHT HEADLINERS: D-Ranged b2b Rektchordz

Friday Night
(Saturday Morning) 5am

Solent Stage Headliners

D-Ranged b2b Rektchordz

Solent Stage are chuffed that our first headliners are the bombastic pairing of D-Ranged and Rektchordz going head to head in a full frenzy breaks battle.

D-Ranged is 27-year-old Cornish producer Benjamin Smithson who drew inspiration from the nu skool breaks scene at the turn of K2. Since then he's dropped some classic tunes that have torn up breaks headz the world over. Following a brief foray into techno, house and hip hop last year he has returned to his first love and is back with the beaks, and after seeing Rusko's inspirational set at Glade last year, is even turning his hand to dubstep.

Rektchordz is fellow Cornishman, 23-year-old Jamie Smithson who's catalogue of tech-funk bangers has already provided him with an International pedigree. Championed by DJ Annie Nightingale (whose always known a good tune), Rektchordz has continually defoed simple genre definition by pushing at the boundaries. The only constants are the funk… and the fury.

Solent Stage... starts here

Welcome...

After months of slogging… weeks of haggling… and what seems like a lifetime of changing line-ups Solent Stage are proud to announce our scheduled for Glade 2009.

The creation of this stage cements a long-term relationship between Southampton Solent University and Glade Festival. Over the years students from the Uni have worked hard behind the scenes on filming, creating the programme and helping with the marketing... among many other things.

This year however, we're in it up to our necks… literally! Why? Because we love Glade and what it represents!  And because we're proud to have students who understand the Glade ethos and can just fit right in and get on with the jobs at hand, with skill, energy and a level of professionalism that belies their student status.

Our students love it too… that's why this year's festival finds students from Solent producing the programme, filming the Glade Stage, working on specially commissioned documentaries, producing economic and ecological impact surveys, marketing and promoting the event to the UK's student body, taking photos and even providing street theatre and comedy performances.

And then there's the Solent Stage… student DJs, producers and bands rub shoulders with acclaimed producers, DJs and bands on a line up programmed by students. All on a stage that's being crewed, managed, filmed, sound engineered, photographed, and VJ'd by current students, decorated and designed by ex-students and enjoyed by EVERYONE!

No wonder they say that this is the best work experience in the world!

Don't be fooled by the student word - this stage promises to rock the Glade site as hard as any of the well-known names and underground bangers. Just look at the line-up!

Let's 'ave it! As an ex-raver turned lecturer might have said back in the day.

:)

About Me

My real name is Dr Martin James... I'm a senior lecturer in Popular Music Studies at Southampton Solent University. Before I became a crusty academic I spent 17 years writing about electronic music and trawling the darkened recesses of the world’s dingiest clubs in search of the perfect beat for magazines like Muzik, Mixmag, DJ, 7, Generator, Wax, Mixer, Urb and Sweater. I've also written some books on dance music like: • State of Bass : Jungle - The Story So Far (Box tree/ Macmillan – 1997) • Prodigy – Adventure with the Voodoo Crew (Ebury - 1997) • Moby – Replay (IMP - 2000) • Prodigy Revisited (Sanctuary - 2002) • Fatboy Slim- Funk Soul Brother (Sanctuary – 2002) • French Connections – From Discotheque to Discovery (Sanctuary – 2002) That's it really MJ PS I think I may have found that perfect beat in a grass hut on an Indonesian island paradise called Babi Besar.
